So last week we got an email confirming a pay rise because we are valued employees and the company appreciates all our hardwork. The issue with that pay increase is it is to the new minimum wage. To make it even worse we are moving to the minimum wage while previously being on the national living wage. So instead of a pay increase because of our hard work it's a pay increase to the minimum amount the government has set out from previously being on the better rate of pay. Do they really think we are stupid enough not to realise what they did. If that's not bad enough we get another email today confirming we have to return to the offices full time from June. I'm just done. So now I'm on the job hunt, only positive is as long as I'm working the same hours I am now…
Month: May 2024
Had a recruiter reach out to me about a new role. It pays 2.5x what Im making now. For perspective, I could make MORE in this role in six months than I would in my current role for a year – and it seems to be a good opportunity. Here's the catch: Im currently salaried and the new position is contract-to-hire (does have benefits though). I would usually never entertain a contract job, but since I didn't have to go looking for it I decided to interview and things are going well and moving quickly. The new role is for a well known company AND it's fully remote – whereas my current job is in office. My current company is good in all areas, EXCEPT pay. Ive already presented that I wasn't being paid market and their response was a minimal bump despite being a top performer with a specialized…
I’m doing software implementation and we are in meetings all day. This project was red since day and we had a meeting with the client and external consultants just now. The external consultant asked dumb questions which didn’t make sense at all so I tried to be patiently answering these questions and they put me on the spot for that. This person was sharing their screen and all of sudden there was a private message popping up from the lady client saying “oh, oh you have her cornered haha”. All 25 people from the client team including her boss saw that message. Consultant tried to close the window but it was too late. I was pissed and just need to vent. Like.. why are you so stupid?
I got called into a meeting last week and I was not allowed to know what it was about although I asked. It was with HR and our exec director who is incredibly demeaning to her employees, my supervisor, and my coworkers. As such I was concerned about attending. But I composed myself as I had done nothing wrong. I was called into the execs office and HR was there to read me a statement. They said it was to reviewing employee handbooks social media policy. They then read me an essay long statement about how members of the community had gone to the exec to ask about whether I worked at her organization. She told them yes and they sent her screenshots of my posts about free Palestine. Specifically, I had used a laughing emoji to express disbelief at the outrage of the removal of an Israeli flag in…
I was laid off.
I had given 6 years to a company called MCI or Medical Couriers Inc. They got rid of all us Couriers and replaced us with a third party company because they didn't want to pay us living wages. They did not even take care or maintain the vehicles that we drove in despite reports of them needing repairs. Some of us have been there more than ten years and they just let us go with less than a week notice. They never truly cared about their workers despite what they say on their website.
I applied for a job as a customer service representative for a marketing company and a few days later I got a phone call from the company to set up an interview. The lady, who I assumed was a recruiter or hiring manager said they do a lot of work with nonprofits and environmental groups, but not exactly what. We set up an interview on Zoom and she said “I’ll see you then”, so I assumed I would be interviewing with her. I’m looking up the company, which in the name says it’s a marketing company, but their website really doesn’t explain anything they do besides saying they “connect communities to nonprofits”, and a whole bunch of filler words about how they “make a better tomorrow” and whatnot. I thought this was odd but I could have my questions answered in the interview. A few days later, I get on…
I am a dev and all work is done on a computer. All meetings are done through Teams, so there is absolutely 0 need for an office. But… Now that forced office is back as the dominant place of work, I need a few pointers to help my brain rationale the idiocracy. I have a much better hardware at home, should I request something specific at the office that will make me annoying to have there? Some expensive, by law required, ergonomical accessories perhapse? Spend a lot of time in the bathroom for privacy is a no brainer. Try to bring freshener and it can be endurable. Use a lot of TP, a lot. Fruits. Take as many and as often you can. Any more ideas how work days can be spent when forced office?
Job search as a Gen Z
I'm 19 years old. I've spent the second half of 2023 and the beginning of this year job searching. I have applied to several jobs through Indeed and SnagAJob. I only managed to get one job which was a seasonal cashier from November to December. They said if I preformed well that I'd be hired permanently. By the time New Year's rolled around, I was given the boot. To this day I still don't understand why. I did exactly as I was told and I never slacked off. I tried to go above and beyond to make sure customers were satisfied. Even with all I did, they let me go. I mostly pin the reason one one manager I had who has it out for me since the beginning for absolutely no reason. She just did not like me even thought we never spoke. Besides that, I had applied to…
