I’ll start by saying that I like my job. I like the location, the role, and I get on with my colleagues, with the exception of the manager. He is incredibly toxic and is the reason that 7 out of the 12 people in the team are actively seeking other employment. Here’s the issue: My contracted hours are Monday to Friday 8-4. Recently my boss has been granting leave to anyone who requests it without checking whether there’s cover. He’s given all the weekend staff the weekend off and he’s asked me to cover. I have plans (tickets for events, family commitments, etc.) every weekend in June and my boss is pissed that I said no to covering leave he has already approved. So now he’s told me that, from now on, I need to let him know any time I make plans (and what the plans are) on weekends.…

Computer illiterate boss
I’m wondering what you would do if you faced the following? My boss is an outright idiot. She can’t use her computer and it’s a 99% online role. She can’t use Word, Excel, Teams.. she fumbles her way through the basics but constantly asks me how to share her screen, undo a change, format wording… really really basic stuff. She has a bad memory problem and forgets things CONSTANTLY. I think it’s dementia. She replies all to emails where she means to email only me scolding me about something and then gets angry she looks stupid and blames it on me. She’s always banging on about her image and reputation and how I can’t make any mistakes because it will make her look bad. (lol you make yourself look incompetent lady, you don’t need any help with that). Typing an email is basically the only thing she can manage so…
Was talking about how fucking miserable life has become lately with inflation driven by corporate greed and how I don't know how much longer I can sustain being a slave to rent/a mortgage with little left over to live before I burn out, and how I hate that I've had to go from working 4 days a week to a full 5 because of corporate greed. Everyone in the comments carried on like I said Hitler had a point for daring to suggest we'd be better off working 32 hours a week for the same income because how DARE I want work life balance, that's so entitled millennial of me! People kept talking about how 40 hours is normal and fine and jfc, how are things going to change when so many people in my country are not only licking the boot, they're fucking eating it and then kissing the…
Can IT see what I do on my laptop?
Starting to remote work using my own laptop. If I downloaded something to move my mouse, would IT know since it’s my personal laptop? I am guessing once I logged into the system, they could see whatever they want until I sign off.
top tier: people who are polite/respectful and put CASH in my hand when I come to their house because they understand that most of what they paid goes to my boss, not to me, and that handing me actual cash is the only way the job is actually worth my while. This is like 10% of clients or less. 2nd best: people who are polite/respectful and maybe offer me water or a cup of coffee, are willing to think about how they can make it easier for us, seem to have a genuine recognition of what a favor is being done for them by a real person. yes they paid for it but also it's being done by a person. i'm willing to believe that some of these people don't tip because maybe they don't have the extra cash or aren't prepared to, but the attitude of respect still is…
My current contract to hire role that i have been with for a year has decided to convert me to a Full-time employee. I have been working through a temp agency for two years. I am currently a Senior Healthcare Data Analyst with 6 years of experience. Originally i was getting paid $50/hr but when they extended my contract at the six month period to further review me i requested a raise through the tempy agency and got $54/hr. Now that i am being converted, i started doing research and am conflicted about how to approach things… The average pay for my career in my area is 126ish at the 50th percentile and i took a lower pay even as a contractor because i needed the job. Unfortunately though, i was able to find the salary range for this position through an opening currently available on their site and its…
LONG RANT. Was hired at $18/hour last year in an administrative coordinating position for a healthcare company. Took it because I was DESPERATE for a M-F “bank” hours job due to childcare. Since being hired I have gone above and beyond to the point that, since our shitty operations manager was demoted to essentially the nursing case manager (let’s call her Sheena, since she’ll be mentioned later), I’ve been tasked with operations manager tasks (apparently actually hiring a new one for our location is out of the budget). So, I’ve been doing payroll close outs, overtime and holiday billing, all service code billing, end of month reports, payroll adjustments, etc. On TOP of that, I just got told (not asked) I will be “promoted”/moving to what is essentially the nursing case manager position, to take on half the case load of Sheena. Sheena makes $21/hour. I still make $18/hour. Figured…
