Context: I am a 23 year old college student that used to work 18-20 hours a week but my boss kept cutting my hours down to 4 hours a week, which means I only come in once a week even though school has passed and it is summer now. I went in today to talk to her and she told me that everytime I come in, I'm not “gungho” and that I'm always “tired” which is true but I also still get my stuff done and I feel like I'm usually productive most of the time. I'm not taking any summer classes and I have tried to look for an extra job but they are usually not the type of job I'm comfortable with, because I do not have the skills necessary nor do I have a car. I did ask her if there was something wrong with being kind…

Why don’t we do something?
At 23 years old, I admit I don't have everything figured out about life. However, reading posts on this sub has opened my eyes to some harsh truths about work. Spending more than 8 hours a day for the next 60 years in a poorly paid job is truly disheartening. Meanwhile, there are millionaires who can't even spend all their money and contribute more to pollution than the rest of us combined. I see many of you share these sentiments. Why don't we unite? What actions can we take together? What resources should we explore? How do we start?
I’ve reached the point where I would not
I don’t know if I have any legal recourse, while they did undoubtedly lay me off over it (they even tried moving me to another center at the same company, knowing it would be hard for me to get there with no car and I had to tell them I couldn’t, due to construction that has made getting to that side of town by bus very time intensive), I didn’t follow the proper protocol when it came to reporting (I waited a day or two to do so & never let my boss know, as I feared retaliation.). I had also spoken to other coworkers about it and my boss lamented to everyone about how it was all over drama and caused by gossip (going as far to give everyone the equivalent of a how to guide to not gossiping in the workplace & FRAMING IT AND HANGING IT IN…
Background: My wife and I work in health care at a non-profit hospital in Indiana. I'm sick and tired of my employer and how terrible they underpay and treat their employees. My wife's department recently received a pay increase and she received the following email. In the email (Part 3 and 4), they say not to discuss your salary publicly. I know that public discussion of salary is a federally protected right and it's illegal for employers to even say “do not to talk about it”. I am also a huge advocate of public discussion of salary as complete silence only allows for the employer to take advantage of the employee. My questions: With the wording of this email, is this technically violating that federal right? What legal person/lawyer would I talk to about about filing a formal complaint? https://preview.redd.it/w4cib1rpkn4d1.png?width=1634&format=png&auto=webp&s=7a1b335bff1b7d1cdd06c03affcf042025e50ecc
What loser snitches on somebody for being on their phone when the day is SLOW?! fuck this job
had a meeting with my boss abt my first year at this job and goals for the next year. it basically boiled down to i’m doing everything i’m required and doing it really well, but he’s a bit concerned with the fact that i don’t do a lot of things outside of that… like i love my job and my coworkers and i’m really lucky with it. but i only get paid 40k. not to mention, he wants me to take on more responsibilities with the new hires. idk if i’m just being dramatic, but i don’t really think it’s a problem if i’m doing my job well and have some downtime at work. especially because i don’t get paid a livable salary. shrug
Great approach!
