They reached out to me, made me do a drug test and 2 days worth of paperwork just to not even interview me, (Nobody wants to hire)
Month: July 2024
I have been looking for a part-time job to supplement my income while I complete my Ph.D. Last week, I was interviewed by a company. Their job description was intentionally nebulous and they strategically left out the part that they want you to work for free. The HR manager showed me the company right after my interview. He said they have bagels every Friday and free pizza once a month. He sounded like a used-car salesman. When I cut through the chase and asked him about compensation, he gave me a long-winded explanation intended to disorient me. The bottom line is that they don't pay. He said it's a great company and working for them for 6 months will look great on my résumé because I'll have a chance to work with very smart people and on fun projects, and don't forget the bagels every Friday and free pizza once…
Use vacation day if owner closes.
Morning everyone! My partner works in an office where they have to use a vacation day if the owner closes the building due to snow. Also they have decided to close on July 5th but employees must take a vacation day. Is this legal? Do other companies do this? We are in PA. Why would you announce everyone would be off on July 5th but you have to use a vacation day? Any insight would be appreciated. *Edit to include they are salary employees. Not hourly.
Is anyone here a manager? (just curious)
1 hour shift
My work is having a mandatory meeting of 1 hour. We are located in California. I tried looking up the laws for this but I found something saying about getting sent home you get half the hours or 2 hours whichever is more. I couldn’t find anything about if they schedule you for only one hour and are not cutting your scheduled day. Some people have a 45 minute commute and don’t want to waste their time for 1 hr pay. Thanks for any answers!
Sick of ambiguous instructions
I'm so fed up with the “system” at work. It's an otherwise good workplace, with the bosses following the rules etc. but my god they are terrible at writing down the proper instructions or telling everyone about them. We have our routines and everything written down, and are told to stick to them, but when there are changes made or details that are unclear, they're so slow to update them. And when you ask a coworker they'll say “well ___ said this and that to me” but there's nowhere it's written in black and white. Then you get told off for working overtime to finish your tasks that are written down in the instructions. Like, it's great I don't need get everything done if there's not enough time, but literally let us know beforehand.
I own a construction business. I run it ethically. People can work as much or as little as they like. I make no money from the labor of those in my company. (I do from my own labor and on subcontractors, materials, shop time, etc.) I’m well off and I’m married with no kids. Both my wife and I come from lower working class backgrounds. She’s a teacher, paid her way through college before we met. Both Gen X. Don’t own a house as I’m not in the business of buying value-stripped assets. (We live in the Bay Area.) I’m insulated from many of the lives of people on this sub, but (somehow – algorithm magic) it’s all over my feed. I just want to lend my support to fight against the bullshit not a five day week and for those of you being forced back into offices for no…
Why is it that the hardest workers get treated like absolute garbage and the worker who does barely anything, rubs shoulders well with the managers only, gets upskilled and promoted while you do THEIR work for them and it is all swept under the rug like them doing NO work never happened….ah I can't and this I see time and time again happen, whhhhy?!? It just doesn't make sense to me why businesses punish their best workers, how does that make any sense at all is beyond me
For something based on a game, this is too real, especially with some pushing for older retirement ages…
