Managers expect us to always be busy

I get managers not wanting workers to waste an entire day doing nothing especially since I work at a local small business. But the other day I had just gotten done helping a customer and like 30 seconds later one of my managers comes in to tell me restock everything right that second. We had just restocked mostly everything a few hours before. Another time me and one of my coworkers were doing a simple task as a two person job while there was no customers because shocking, we wanted to talk to each other. Then a manager decides to tell us she didn't want us doing that because it didn't need to be a two person job. Which it didn't need to but at least we were doing something and there were not any pressing tasks at that time. There's been so many times where managers will tell people…

Pressure to share personal life at work and be social

I work remotely but we have a few onsites every year which I absolutely hate. I didn’t know when I got hired that any travel was required and all the remote roles I had before never required any travel. Being around colleagues and boss in a real life setting makes me anxious and uncomfortable, but I’m ok with it as long as we stick to work topics, but the whole company culture pressures us into social events and sharing our personal lives, which I refuse to do. I like my job and my colleagues but I absolutely hate the pressure of forced interactions and pressure to share my personal life. I don’t want to talk about what I did over the weekend. I don’t want to tell them about my family or my relationship. I just want to work. Why does it matter who I am or who they are…

Anyone ever successfully negotiated for 2x pay for any overtime instead of 1.5x pay?

I've worked at a few places that paid 2x pay on holidays and Sundays, but 1.5x pay on any other hours worked over 40 in a week. I have a job interview coming up where I have some leverage and I know they need my help. I'm usually not big on overtime, but I know they're probably needing me to work 50 hours a week at least for a while. So I was thinking about addressing this with an exchange something like this…. Me: So, would it be a deal-breaker for you if I only worked 40 hours a week? Manager: Well, yeah, we really need to get X done in Y amount of time, and overtime is definitely going to be needed. Me: Well, how about a compromise then? I'll work up to 50 hours a week, but any hours over 40 will be double time. Is that fair?…

Friend got fired and his job tried to force him to sign a resignation letter

So my friend was basically told sign this resignation letter (1 week notice) or your fired right here and now. He didn't sign it but they typed up the letter on his behalf basically making it sound like he typed it up and printed it out. Also he barely reads or speaks any english and this letter is in English. He took a picture of the letter after the office lady wrote on it “Refused to sign” and her and his supervisor signed the bottom. I believe they were trying to take advantage of him since he didn't speak English. Is there anything that he can do? We live in Washington state.

Trying to beat AI filters

Hi all, don't know if this is the right subreddit, but I'm trying to apply for jobs and I know I'd be able to get an actual position if I could speak to a real human being. Only problem is, the amount of companies filtering people out with AI before a person ever sees it. Is there something I can put in my resume/applications that would make me be able to bypass the filters so it actually makes it to a pair of human eyes? Like I said I don't know if this is the right subreddit to ask but any help is appreciated!

Not feeling comfortable in any job

Has anyone else never felt comfortable or valued in a job? I don’t understand how people can settle for a company when you don’t matter and your voice isn’t heard. Getting so frustrated with this whole process of jumping through hoops to get nowhere fast.
