We've been planning this trip since she left last year, we've made plans, picked a specific date, rented our bnb as soon as possible, I got all the necessary papers to travel and bought the plane tickets, got my own vacation days approved… All the while my friend has already handed in her request for two weeks time off, so she can spend time with me, but obviously their software is broken, so she has to ask to permission in person. So I was supposed to start working at dominos today at 4:30 as a delivery driver in a Texas location, to clarify me and my wife are completely broke so I had to doordash for gas money before I went in, I wasn’t on the schedule or gotten my uniform yet, I get there at 4:31 walk in at 4:32 and a manager I hadn’t spoken to or seen the past week and half I’ve been in the application process came around the corner at 4:33 asking why I was late, I explained my situation to her and she told me “We’re trying to make being punctual extremely important here so I don’t think we’re going to continue this” I just sort of laughed and walked out after telling her okay. Not sure what happened upstairs in the office but from what I've heard from coworker, she was crying while the security guard escorted her out the building. Now that my severance has stopped, I feel like I can share some of my experiences working at Tesla, and maybe others can share theirs. From April 2022 to April 2024 I was a full time employee at the Tesla Fremont factory. We worked 12 hour shifts on rotating schedules of 3-4 consecutive days a week. In return, we get the same in days off. I lived an hour away and would take the commuter shuttle when not carpooling. Sometimes those four 12-hour shifts in a row could get brutal. Working outdoors for most of it, the seasons were harsh. Scorching hot summers since we’re on blacktop all day, one time it got so hot several people passed out across the factory from the heat and we were all sent home early. Cold, dark and wet winters. The thing that's really confusing is society keeps changing repeatedly, and makes no sense anymore. First, employers supported remote work. Then, everyone MUST return to the office or be fired. People return to the office and they get laid off anyway due to challenging economic conditions, and companies announce record profits. Now, we're reasonably certain next year will have even more layoffs and no plan whatsoever of what we're going to do if we get laid off… Pray or something I guess?

I don't think people realize how detrimental and unnatural the vast majority of careers are to the human body and mind. Our bodies were designed to be in a clean and toxic-free environment with access to fresh air, engaging in physical movement for most of the day. Our modern jobs and lifestyles are the complete opposite of that. Let's begin with the infamous 9 to 5 jobs. The average commute in America is around 30 minutes but for many, it is often much longer than that. Since most Americans drive to work, that's at least an additional hour of sitting on top of being mostly sedentary for 9-10 hours at your office job. So from morning to evening, most American office workers are in a sedentary state which is incredibly unhealthy to the body. I advised my direct manager on Friday that my sister had just tested positive for covid and I'd spent all of Wednesday with her, so was concerned and asked what the policy was. They told me since there is no government mandated isolation anymore I should come to work and just wear a mask. I tested positive on Sunday, told my manager and am now at work on Monday in a mask and sick as a dog. Funnily enough, my manager isn't here putting herself at risk. Just told my managers boss that I'd be out tomorrow due to it and they said 'covid doesn't exist, you're letting people down because I'm not allowing anyone to cover for you'.
