My boss just told me why I didn't shared with anyone the information of three emails everyone in the distro got (one was even shared by him).
Month: August 2024
I started a new job last week and on the second day, they sprung it on me that they're planning a department retreat in January. When I was looking for a new job, I didn't want anything that required travel and when I asked in my first interview for this job I was told there was no required travel. My main issue with this retreat is that it's on the West Coast and I live in New England. A good portion of my department lives in the same town where they're having the retreat and think it's a little unreasonable to ask me to travel for 7-8 hours when most just have to drive down the street. The head of the department said it's optional, but I don't have kids or a “reason” to not go other than I don't want to and I have social anxiety. How can I…
Employer Playing Stupid Games With Me
So I submitted an unemployment claim back in May 2023 because my mom passed away. My employer fought the claim and won, forcing me to pay back the amount since I failed to fill out a specific document before taking my leave. (The death was sudden and accidental, so I'm trying to appeal the decision since there's no way I could've planned this) They rehired me in August 2023 as part of a rehire agreement. However, they said they didn't have any work in my immediate area, so I had to commute 62 miles to another regional office for shifts, I was only getting 32 hours a week there, but it was still something. 2 weeks ago, they removed me from the 2 sites I was working at because of poor attendance (I have sleep apnea) and am currently in the process of getting an accommodation for it. 4 weeks…
Petty coworkers
Every job I’ve ever had has the try hards that suck the company’s dick and for what? We were told a few months ago that we’re not allowed to wear earbuds while working anymore for “safety reasons”. Everyone followed that rule for a while and everybody slowly started wearing them again so so did I. I got told by my supervisor that my name was specifically mentioned that I’ve been wearing AirPods my whole shift. I looked confused and said “Oh are we not supposed to be wearing them anymore?” And he said that we’re technically not supposed to at all but I was specifically mentioned and to just take my AirPods out. Like what? Having the rule applied to everyone is fair and that wouldn’t bother me. But just me? When everyone else wears them as well and they don’t get anything mentioned to them? That’s some fantastic bullshit.…
So let's say I'm the shareholder of some big ass Fortune 500 company, why would I hire some hot shot that's gonna cost me $50M when I could probably find some workers from inside the same company, give them some juicy $500k bonus to run the show and the profits could go even higher ($49.M to be precise)?
Throwaway because I prefer to keep my main goofy and lighthearted. I'm 20, nanny and cleaner for this fairly wealthy family. The wife is having a crisis of some kind I assume, seeing as she quit her job to be a housewife and got super into religion. She's been picking at a lot of the things I do, and she confronted me about my chest. I was wearing the uniform, she just didn't like the…size I guess. I asked what she wanted me to do, and she showed me binding, something I hadn't heard of until now, saying “that shouldn't be too hard” She said if I don't “change my ways”, she'd be wrong to keep me taking care of her daughter, and I'd have to go. I'm not in a place where I can be jobless right now, so I kinda just have to bind now. Just peeved.
I have been at my current company for just over 10 years now. With some luck and hard work I have done fairly well for myself. I started as an entry level call center rep in customer care and worked my way up through analytics roles and am now a senior technical product manager. My org is having re-alignment recently which means I have whole new leadership change. I recently had a one on one with my new senior director, think my boss’s, boss’s boss. Well I was introducing myself and talking about my background and I said that I started entry level as a call center rep and he was frankly shocked. Like stopped talking for about 5 to 10 seconds to process that. I think this really shows how the American dream is frankly dying cause for me, I don’t think I did anything special. I just started…
Interview That Ended Friendship
Here’s a summary of my friendship with that person: He was my trainer at my first entry-level job in a call center, and it was also his first job in the UAE. Later, I moved to a more exclusive company while he stayed in the call center field. Frustrated, he asked me for help with a job at my company. I helped him prepare for the interview, but he wasn’t hired. However, my manager liked him and promised to consider him for future vacancies which he did and successfully joined. Six months later, he didn’t pass probation due to performance and COVID-related cuts. I helped him find another job by referring him to a different company. After some time, he moved on to another company that went bankrupt, so I helped him find yet another position. I enjoy helping without expecting anything in return. After my third referral, things improved…
My daughter had a new job as a CSR, got four weeks training, and had worked two more weeks for a total of six weeks. The employer announced at the four week mark, that the staff could not leave on time, they had to wait for an “all clear” from the supervisor to make sure all the work was done before they could leave. The contract she was hired on said no forced overtime, voluntary overtime only. In addition, she was never told who her supervisor was. The all clear would come via email from an anonymous supervisor. Frustrated, she just collected her stuff and walked off the job one Friday afternoon. She would have told a supervisor, if she'd had one to tell. The employer didn't call her until the next Wednesday. The person who finally called was her original recruter, not a supervisor. Is this the new normal?…
