It was basically this split screen of everybody’s getting laid off, and all of the higher-ups are having this big, massive celebratory buffet https://www.yahoo.com/news/layoffs-no-warning-going-dr-202242257.html

A personal life is “selfish”
So I work at a ridiculously badly managed job. It wouldn’t be such a big deal if it wasn’t directly tied to people’s lives. Well anyway, today I got word that one of the Employees got reprimanded for refusing to pick up an extra shift and “help” the team. I put help in quotes because We’ve been short staffed for going on three years now and only barely afloat because people volunteer to do overtime religiously. Upper management has done very little, if anything, to correct this issue. He was called selfish for choosing a day off i and not sacrificing his given time off. Unprofessional, even. Why management isn’t “selfish” for refusing to do the same…the world may never know These jobs give no fucks

I would never agree to a group interview with other candidates. But was I given a choice? No. I was lied to by ommission and told that I would be doing an interview with a certain manager. You can imagine how surprised and stupid I felt when I logged onto zoom and there were otjer candidates on there. I sent the manager an email explaining that I would have appreciated transparency and honesty about the interview format and that I will not be pursuing the position any further.
Former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz said last year that corporate employees working from home was “unfair to store employees.” Now, the new CEO has a home office two states away from the company HQ.
Taking away approved PTO
My place of employment is taking away my coworkers PTO that was approved 5 months ago. She already planned a trip out of the country. Management is stating it’s due to staffing reasons and her not having enough PTO. Literally nothing has changed with our staffing situation and I’ve seen her PTO bank… she has plenty to cover. When she told our supervisor she already bought plane tickets out of the country, our supervisor responded with “you can resubmit the PTO request but you’ll get 3 occurrences for it”. We’re just baffled by this and don’t know what she can do about it. When she asked HR about the PTO policy, they were most unhelpful.
I know this sound like it's not relevant to this sub but it is. If you have seen any of the Alien movies that company treats there employees horribly and also doing illegal genetic experiments with the Xenomorph. A movie that exemplifies this the most is the new Alien movie it just shows how far there greed leads them to do horrible things. I would give more examples from the movie but those would be spoilers.
I am simply expressing my frustration with my employer, despite the company's professed values of being a family-oriented organization. I am seeking to work remotely to support my pregnant girlfriend in order to support and physically be present for my family's needs, feeling unsupported by my boss who rejects my request. Despite being a top performer, the boss shows reluctance to accommodate a remote working arrangement. I know they will be required by law if I have to wait until he is born then by taking FMLA leave my job is protected for 12 weeks of time off to care for my newborn. I’m curious and seek advice on potential solutions, such as escalating the issue to higher management which I have already gone to HR who told me it’s up to my boss but he did not see anything upon looking at my work numbers as to why I…
No one is even hiring.
With the context that I am employed, but I left a job recently and applied to 30 jobs within a week and only one actually got back to me. I’ve heard/seen stories of people applying to 1,000 jobs and still getting nothing and it’s crazy. A few years ago, i would apply to jobs and interview just for the practice but now, it does’nt matter, you just get ghosted or just never hear back. Two years ago, i applied to 75 jobs within a month and four of them responded at least 4 months later. Also, companies have to pay a certain ammount per application they receive depending on the platform they’re using to post job listings so some smaller companies are finding ways around that by not actually posting listings. It’s such a shitty situation that PEOPLE WANT TO WORK but aren’t given the opportunity. Not to mention that…
