Might have to go into work sick

I've been sick since Monday, so I asked if any of my coworkers can cover my shift today since I'm still not feeling well (I had Monday and Tuesday off). Almost everyone has read the message, and no one has responded since I sent it an hour and a half ago. Luckily I haven't thrown up since yesterday but I just feel so exhausted because I didn't sleep well at all. My head aches and my body hurts and I'm weak because I've barely eaten. My shift is in 6 hours and I don't expect I'll be feeling much better by then. I just want to curl into a ball and sleep all day but we're so short staffed I might have to go in anyway or risk losing my job, which I know is ridiculous but I can't afford to not have a job. The thought of going in…

First time worker curious about my rights. (New Mexico)

Hey all, I (22) just started working at McDonalds for a summer job before college, and I was curious if there were any state or country-wide rights that I could exercise/should know about. I’m paid hourly, and tend to work 10-15 hours a week. For example, I’ve read that changing shifts without long enough prior notice can induce a fine, but I’m not sure if that remains true for me, as though there is a “schedule”, it seems very flexible and I’m often sent home before scheduled to be done. Or if it just doesn’t apply due to being paid hourly. That’s all, just curious what you guys think is vital to know.

struggling to figure out how to live life…

i start my first real job this next month with a big tech company and i’m struggling to envision how i’m supposed to….. enjoy life. most importantly, i want to travel. i want to see all the mountains and wildlife and waters and continents. but how am i supposed to do that with two weeks of vacation a year(this will probably grow when i get a more senior position one day but still). the cost of plane tickets and everything to go somewhere far make it not worth it to only stay somewhere for about a week imo. i’ve thought about transitioning to vanlife one day in the far future and working from “home” so i could drive wherever but idk. i’m still young and i just want to experience everything. one of my big dreams is to visit patagonia and hike through as many mountains and glaciers as i…

Company refusing to pay out my accrued PTO in NY state

I’ve been with my company for 4 years. I work hard and am a highly-respected employee. I was thrilled to get an offer to join another company and I fully intended to leave my company on good terms. As I put in my resignation letter (which felt amazing), I asked how they pay out my PTO balance of 20 days. This was the answer HR gave me…

Just flat out can’t do it anymore

Late twenties female, been landscaping on and off for many years, and I have been with the same company for two years. Decent bosses, I make $21 an hour and live within my means but I am still struggling/living paycheck to paycheck and I simply cannot keep up anymore. I suffer from PCOS, which made me develop pre diabetes. I also have severe ptsd from chronic homelessness/no support systems and being a victim of several forms of abuse. Despite being healthy and active, going to the gym after work sometimes, I have noticed an extreme decline in my ability to even function regularly at work. My body is giving out on me at only 26. I am burnt out. I feel hopeless because my “savings” is slowly draining. I live within my means and there is nothing more I can cut from my spending aside from going to the laundromat…

Working as an ‘offshore’ freelancer feels like digging your own grave

I don't really know anymore about the legality of the recent actions of the management. I'm a Southeast Asian freelancer working as a CS for a Chicago-based 'cleaning platform.' I just found out that very recently, they started paying out agents at a base rate of $3 per hour while tenured agents are paid eithee $5-6 depending on their tenure (usually getting upskilled or being an agent for 6+ months get that $1 raise). I'm a newbie so I'm judt getting paid $3 an hour and the only way to increase my pay is by performing with a near impossible standard especially for newbies. Such as completing 40 'tasks' MINIMUM per day while also avoiding every mistake. We're also on the job for a minimum of 48-50 hours per week, but 4-5 hours of those are unpaid lunch breaks. On top of that, Tenure/high performing agents are given mandatory OT's…

I think I’m “difficult” at work

I’m a contracted therapist who gets sent clients to see for home visits. I don’t drive but I’m in a transit and walkableISH city. I gave the company a grid for what parameters I’d be down to commute to. They also know what days and times I’d be down to work. They very regularly send me clients outside of this and I either turn them down or offer to see them clustered with another client that I had begrudgingly accepted for the same reason before, lol. Of the referrals I receive I probably have only taken half… but if they had followed me criteria I’d have taken so many more. Anyways, I feel like I’m a “difficult” person for them to deal with for this reason, but I also make concessions that I hate making to begin with. No idea if this is fair of me or if I’m supposed…
