Last week, my mother and her siblings lost their father – their last remaining parent – and she was given only 3 days of bereavement and 1 day for the funeral for the company she’s been working with for more than 25 years. Between needing to figure out funeral plans, clearing the house out (of which I’m taking the bulk responsibility of to help them out) contacting lawyers, and general grieving, it seems especially cruel that she’s only been given 3 day off to deal with her father’s passing, if not completely inhumane.
I’m luckily at a company who has given me ample time to help them out, but it seems that this seems to be the standard for corporations in the U.S. as I’ve additionally learned through my wife’s company as well, who GRACIOUSLY gave her a third day of bereavement leave to be with our family.
If I’ve learned anything about this country, it’s that we are simply just meat placed in empty spaces to fill the coffers of those who view humans as nothing but disposable assets to make them an insane amount of income.
Just… blown away by this asinine-level of cruelty.
