4/10s and holidays

My company has moved my department to 10-hour days 4 days a week Tue-Fri. We keep running into an issue when it comes to holidays. They keep telling us that if a paid holiday (like labor day) lands on a Monday that week we need to work the other 4 days the full 10 hours. But if that is the case then technically we aren't getting a paid holiday off correct? They keep telling us we are being ridiculous and we should be thankful for the 4/10s. Can anybody help me out here? We are in Utah
