5 Interviews

A recruiter reached out to me about a Desktop Support Position that he was looking to fill for one of his clients and put me in contact with the company's HR for an interview. The pay that he mentioned was pretty good, so I went with it. Oct 2021 I'm on a Teams interview with the Site Lead. Everything was going well, and when I asked about the pay the HR guy that was also on the call interrupted and said, “We can't talk about that on this call.' Okay, cool, whatever, about 20 minutes after the interview, the recruiter reached back out to see how things went. I stayed in contact with the recruiter for a few weeks, letting him know that I still hadn't heard back.

Fast forward to Feb 2022 I got an email from HR with the company for a meeting invite and already scheduled an interview, but I couldn't make it because of my work schedule. I called the contact number and the HR guy scuffs and says “well that's weird” Like bro, I work a job and have the same schedule as you! And around the same time, I get a call from the recruiter again saying the client will be reaching out. Later that day I interview with the same site lead, and everything went well because I'd already spoken to him and knew what questions he would ask. At the end of the interview, I ask, is this a 2nd interview, He paused, not knowing why I would ask, so I told him I had interviewed back in October, and his reply was, “Well, we hired someone, and now the position is open.”

The second interview went well, the third interview went well, and the fourth interview went well despite the fact that the person I was speaking with knew very little about technology (go figure). While this was going on, I asked the recruiter why they were doing so many interviews? I could see if this was a high level position. He didn't know of understand their process either, but said that the comments were all good and I matched what they were looking for in the position.

A week later, I get an email from HR at the company saying they have decided to pursue other candidates. The recruiter called, apologizing that their client wasted my time and that they didn't give a reason why they didn't choose me even though they really liked me. And even mentioned they've had trouble with that client in the past for similar issues.

Not sure why companies wonder why they can't find any candidates. Last month I received a message on LinkedIN from a someone looking to fill the same position.
