50% of my job is re-work

I work in real estate development and manage projects from the ground up. The company I work for insists on following a very strict schedule and following internal work orders, which are part of the Development process Flowchart. Creating and following this process has some advantages, but it also has a lot of inefficacies, and it is completely over whelming me. For instance there are a number of work orders that are scheduled under the process to happen well before we need them. specifically – I have a work order to determine the electrical load for the project. This is something that we actually don't need for another 4-5 months. But to follow the process I completed this task a few months back, and it was based on the project having 9 buildings. Now as the design moved along it turns out we have 10 buildings (I bet this will change again). So now i have to redo this work order all over again, just creating more unnecessary work.

There are a number of things like this that i have to deal with at my work.

I'm just curious if anyone else hast to deal with this, and what you do to manage it.
