Asking an employee to care about a business as much as the owner is like asking a babysitter to love a child as much as the parent

Managers and wannabe go-getters can downvote me to hell for all I care, I don't owe your company my loyalty. I do what I have to out of necessity, not because I have some feelings about your company. If I can bust my back working the whole day and get paid the same as the lazy coworker then it goes without saying that I'll be giving minimum effort. Like many here, I know the “reward” for being a hard worker is a metaphorical pat on the back and constant high expectations with no incentive to do so other than “thanks, good job”
