One time we went out to dinner

The manager uses the company account to buy us all dinner, because we have gotten recruited as high-performers to help this manager with a special project at their office. The manager uses the company account to buy us all dinner, because we have gotten recruited as high-performers to help this manager with a special project at their office.

I get food poisoning and stay all night in the hospital.

I text the manager, telling them I can’t come in at 7 am, since I’ve been up all night in the ER.

The manager texts me back, saying they need me to work because they have a lot of stuff that needs done.

I say “Okay I’ll try to come in at lunch.”

They get angry at that.

I show up, and they yell at me. They tell me I’m unreliable and not serious about work.

Mind you, I have only gotten staffed on this project, because I am one of the highest performers in the company.

The whole week, they berate me and tell me how bad of a worker I am. Eventually, their assistants join in the bullying. The whole time, I’m working 90 hours a week to try and get stuff done.

At one point, I feel so scared to use the bathroom (because they follow me in there and yell at me) that I just urinate in my pants, instead of going to the restroom.

Thankfully, about a year later, she gets fired after treating someone like this again.

If a work environment ever gets this bad, stand up for yourself. I wish I had. I stuck it out, because I knew I’d lose if I went to HR. I couldn’t quit, either, because I needed the money.
