No politics in the workplace?
Ruby on Rails creator, HDD, discusses why his company banned political discussions at the workplace(2021) and why now others, including Meta, are banning political discussion in the workplace. https://world.hey.com/dhh/meta-goes-no-politics-at-work-and-nobody-cares-d6409209
The author quotes Meta's announcement, which I found interesting.
We’re increasing the number of topics that can no longer be discussed at work based on what we’ve seen to be very disruptive in the past. The issues that can no longer be discussed include health matters such as vaccine efficacy and abortion, legal matters such as pending legislation, political matters such as elections or political movements, and weapon ownership and rights.
This distinction between workplace and outside of workplace how does it work? I mean, some of these issues will affect employees of these very companies. If your work environment is fucked up, it is because lots of things outside the work place are equally fucked up.
Just because a workplace has a fancy revolving door, it does not mean it is a door to a different dimension. It is still the same people dealing with the same issues?
Help me understand.
