Firing and rehiring should be illegal

My company suddenly announced that all of us are “transitioning” to new positions and new contracts. We were given the following message: Business conditions periodically require [corporation] to change business strategies and change the overall direction of certain service offerings. Basically, I’m being moved from salaried to hourly. My position requires extensive travel, and 2 hours of that travel is now considered a “normal commute” and will go unpaid. It will also be unlikely that I get 40 hours in a week consistently because my hours are entirely reliant on my clients, their availability, their location, and whether or not they cancel or want services for the year. They also said that working OT will be a fireable offense. So it’s a pay cut.

Obviously I’m quitting as soon as I find a new job. And I was mostly planning on leaving anyway because this company is so shitty and there have been MANY red flags and issues before this. Including lying about my salary offer and faking a Christmas bonus to catch employees who would fall for “phishing”

But so many of these people have been doing this job for 15+ years and now their contracts are being terminated. Right during the holidays too.

This isn’t what I signed up to do. It’s shitty that they can just reverse my contract and automatically rehire me into a worse one that I didn’t agree to. Fuck capitalism and fuck my company
