This was at my now former place of work, I was part of a union of a large grocery chain and our union was full of corporate shills and vastly ineffective for the majority of it's members. First of all new hires were given no information about the union, with some being surprised to learn they were even in one, wages were still $1 above minimum wage, shit for benefits, and an ever increasing amount of full time positions being replaced by due paying part timers who got not even that. I tried to get involved with the union but was met with instant roadblock of the aforementioned ineffective shill union rep. Eventually I ended up just quitting after being constructively dismissed.
Was there anything I could have done or are cases like these just a case of gtfo?
