Thought I’d share this as it happened yesterday and I thought it was really annoying. My mom retired last year after almost 30 years with the same insurance company where she was an executive assistant to a CxO for 15+ years. She has an associates degree that she earned in the 80s though almost all her experience was learned on the job. Especially as times have changed so much since the early 80s. When she was in ‘secretary school’ she was advised to learn to give back and neck rubs because the men in the office have hard stressful jobs and need to relax. Bored in retirement she applied to work part time in an office for an insurance agent. She crushed the phone interview and in person interview. They offered her the job on the spot and she let them know she’d give them within 24 hours. The office…

The office manager calls to follow up the next morning (yesterday) and also to say they’re missing her transcripts. My mom laughs and explains she graduated from HS in the early 70s and college in the early 80s- 40 years ago. The office manager according to my mom was silent and said she needed the transcripts as a college degree was part of the job.

My mom was annoyed by her own admission and explained she has 30+ years experience. The woman from the office says something like “just go online and get the transcripts”. My mom starts to explain when she went to high school there were no computers (not technically true but very likely her records aren’t digitized ) and the Jr College as they called it, that she went to in the late 70/early 80s was absorbed into another college and she has no easy way to get her transcripts.

The lady was apparently unsympathetic and said seeing like “we need them”.

Frustrated my mom told her that she didn’t want the job and hung up.
