This post is about my hellish time at accenture and how it's still ruining my job applications at other companies. It's a long one.
I was a Snapchat-spotlight moderator at accenture and the job was WFH initially because of covid19. In the beginning, I underwent policy training to be able to moderate spotlight videos, then went live 2 weeks after. Naturally, the workload increased day by day and it became impossible to reach the target. Work was judged by quantity and quality. My quality was always 100% but quantity was like 90% which was not bad at all because other coworkers were working less.
Fast forward a few months to when things started to go south. We got a new team leader which brought her toxicity from another company to our team. Our target was 750 per day. A spotlight video is between 3s to 1min long, 30s being the average. We worked for 7.5 hours a day, after subtracting 1 hour for break. So the new team leader, seeing that we weren't reaching our target did the “math”. “900 per day if on average a video is 30s long, so 750 is doable” she stated, not taking into account we have to refer to the policy and watch some videos twice. She came up with a BS solution, that is, putting a google sheet file in place for every worker to log our prod and off prod time. So if I went to the bathroom, I had to log it. Of course most of us didn't fill that. She still wanted to micro manage the team so, a month later a “Productivity tracker tool” was introduced. You had to log in everything officially or it would lead to “escalation” which could lead to “termination”. So this was forced on us and we had to comply. We were still not reaching the daily target so she started calling everyone on team randomly to see if we were on our laptop or not.
Since she was very racist, another woman, a level below team leader who was very friendly was voted unanimously by us to be the new team leader. Turned out she was even more racist than the previous one. And she was sexist. This one forced you to work even if you had covid since you were from home. I say forced because a coworker got fired for taking 3 days off after getting covid. So when I got it I still had to work because else it would affect my probation. Our female coworkers were doing less in terms of quantity and she had nothing to say but she had some shit to say about every male worker in the team. She hated black guys and for no reasons male coworkers were leaving saying “I found a better opportunity elsewhere”. We didn't know about the truth at the time(Later in the story).
So this new team leader had good relationships with the QA team(quality review team) since a level below team leader was in fact QA. She had some of them on her side so she made them flag us for fake mistakes, mistakes affecting our overall quality. Since I did my job correctly, the only way to really throw dirt at me was to drop my quality. So that's what she did. She then put me on a personal improvement plan and issued a RTO, return to office, to better micro manage me and some other male coworkers. When we had quality team calls with other teams, mistakes were debated with our policy trainer and QAs. Everyone saw that our team's mistakes were wrong decisions from our QA. But it still affected our report even if the QA wrongly flagged us.
Fast forward some month, came my review, that is, if they would keep me or not. There was the HR and my team leader. First HR showed stats and said I did very well and congratulated me because I was confirmed at the company. My team leader abruptly said to leave the room and wait until they call me back in. When I entered the room, HR started pointing out the dumbest shit and how my quality dropped etc…She then said, “We have decided to not continue forward with you and terminate your contract. With immediate effect.” She then said “Of course we will pay you your salary and next month salary. Also, everything you learned here should remain confidential, for example, client name etc…and finally do not tell your coworkers we fired you. Tell them you found a better opportunity elsewhere.” At that moment everything made sense so I decided to just go.
The aftermath? Since accenture is a big company recruiters ask everytime why did I leave. I generally say it was on a contractual basis, because as we know, throwing dirt at a previous employer makes you look bad. So they respond by saying “Why didn't they keep you after the initial contract?”. All of this to say it fucked up my chance with other companies. And I have to keep it on my resume because it's my only office/BPO job. So if I want everything customer service or BPO related I should leave it.
So this was my hellish time at accenture and how it fucked up my chance with other companies.
