I got sick at the beginning of the week and I went to the doctor. The doctor gave me a note to take off 3 days of work to get better.
I emailed the executive director of our company (very small team and I often need to communicate with him throughout the week) and told him I’d be out for a few days. He asked me “who would do my job while I was gone” (annoying) and then also asked for proof with a doctors note. I was annoyed but sent over the info and took the time off.
When I got back to work, I asked my coworker who just took 3 weeks off of work due to an illness (he wasn’t hospitalized or anything, but he was pretty sick) if he sent his doctors note to our HR person or to our executive director. He said no one asked him for a doctors note. I am female and he is male. I am technically higher up in “seniority” than him. Is it reasonable for employees to be treated differently like this?
