So I’ve been out sick with covid this past week and a pretty lame workplace rule has been revealed to me. According to my manager, sick employees are responsible for finding their own cover.
So I’m sitting here, looking for covers day after day, only getting a few responses from my coworkers and basically no one wants to take my shifts. I can’t help but wonder if this job should be done by my boss?
Illness and managing employees when scheduling conflicts arise is part of any workplace and there are people who are paid more than me presumably to fix those exact problems, so why am I begging my coworkers to cover for me? I’d hate to know that a sick coworker came into work and potentially exposed their illness to me just because they couldn’t find a cover and our boss didn’t care to try and help solve the problem themselves.
And in my case, it’s not like I could stick it out and suffer through coming into work, I literally have covid and must stay home until I test negative per the businesses rules. Yet somehow it seems to reflect poorly on me that I’m calling out and don’t have a cover….
