This happened 6 years ago. My 25 yr old nephew got diagnosed with oesteosarcoma and we knew he was unsavable and as his time was limited I requested some time off to help my sister as she was losing her one and only child. Just for context this wasn't just her child but her best friend, her shadow, she had him at 14 and they grew up together so she was losing her whole life. My request was met with “its time to choose what is more important, your career or your family” to which i laughed and replied “what my career as a fucking cleaner on shitty minimum wage” I handed back the keys to my van and told him to kiss my big fat ass as I walked out. My nephew died with in 1 month of diagnosis, then I went back to cleaning but as my own boss and took all my ex bosses best clients. His company is no more as mine is still being run by my friend. I'm not shitting on cleaners, we dare to go where no one else is brave enough to go or can be arsed with and its bloody hard work. I'm shitting on working 80 hrs a week on minimum wage and getting told that, that as my “career” is more important than real life family and people
