Why do workplaces constantly make you feel guilty?

I had a work trip last week and I have no clue what happened but I’ve fallen incredibly sick. Had to get injections and IV administered for to the weakness. I informed work that I would not be coming in for a few days but will still do some tasks from home so there’s no lag. But I still get a taunt email today? Since they’re heavily dependent on me, I’m not allowed to fall sick? “One person missing becomes a challenge for the others. “One person missing becomes a challenge for the others. While we do appreciate that you guys work from home whenever possible, it becomes a challenge for the management to keep adjusting.”

Then HIRE MORE PEOPLE!

“Kindly note, that going forward I am not going to approve any leaves if they are not sent atleast 2-3 days in advance (with an extremely valid reason) so that the work for that particular day is managed in advance. This might mean that you will have to work extra hours to ensure smooth functioning of the team.”

Okay, checks notes, I’m gonna be sick after 3 days, let me email real quick. And I already DO work extra hours without any additional pay.

I’m getting so stressed. The red flags are really adding up and I’m scared to change because what if it’s like this everywhere?

Note: I work at a digital agency, if that’s relevant.
