Context: I recently was hired on three weeks ago at a job after a painfully lengthy application process…unfortunately I was let go as I wasn’t where they expected me to be in terms of training… it sucks, but hey, there’s no use crying over spilled milk.
I was pretty chill about it, and I kept the original box that the laptop came in so I just asked them to send me a return label so I can ship it back to them (i’ve had a few remote jobs, so I know how this goes) however, to my surprise, they told me that they won’t be sending me a shipping label, and the responsibility of paying for the returns falls on me.
All in all, I would be paying $700 for insurance on the laptop, while also paying for a shipping label and packaging services that they require I utilize (mind you, around this time I hadn’t even seen my first paycheck and they were already telling me that I need to pay these out of pocket).
They said they would reimburse me on my next paycheck but my expenses can’t wait another 2 weeks, I’ve never had to do this before and all other jobs just sent me a prepaid label and a box to come with it.
Now there’s talks of deducting from my next paycheck. If I don’t get it in on time, anyone else have to experience something like this? Can they do this? Or are they just twisting my are to do it because they don’t want to?
