“Entry” level

Just finished an interview for an “entry” level position in a very technical field which claimed it only required an associates with one year of experience preferred. I have a bachelors (masters in progress) and close to 10 years experience in a closely related field with about two years in this specific field. The questions asked in the interview were things that only someone with a decade of experience would have known. At first, I thought I was interviewing for the wrong job and had to review the job announcement after the interview to make sure. Just wondering if this toxic trend of “entry” level claims are only used to justify “entry” level pay, or if HR genuinely believes their own job postings.
