A while ago, I was asked to apply for a head position, I got to the final couple and sadly didn't get the gig. I moved forward.
Then, their secondary position came up. I applied and received a call from the hiring person wanting to chat. We did and they let me know they were surprised and that the role has historically been more junior but they'd like to see where this goes.
I asked the salary expectations. They came in $20K lower than my salary. I let them know and negotiated because there were other perks and the role would be more interesting.
They said they'd offer me the job that day.
Then I was asked to come for an interview by HR.
Confused I agreed.
I interviewed and rocked it. Did their stupid tests and showed them my strengths.
They say they'll be in touch in a week.
Two weeks goes by.
They ask me for another chat.
They explain the head person is insecure that I'm going to take their job. Trying to be empathetic, I explain I understand but there's not much I can do about that. Oh, and the most interesting parts of the job are being given to a VP's kid who dropped out of film school.
They said they'd offer me the job that night.
Then I'm asked for references from supervisors.
I realized how fucking miserable this process was and walked.
