Americans: “we need to be more like the French!” Meanwhile.

No shade to the French; love the hustle boys. But hey listen, if the title sentence is one you throw around when engaging in discourse around organizing labor movements, I have excellent news for you; we've been doing this shit the whole time. As someone from the hollers of lower Appalachia, I just want to reach through the phone and shake everyone who belittles the south as complacent, idle yokels who are complicit in our own oppression, while hand-wringing about how the French do it better. Some of the bloodiest and most effective labor revolts happened in my granddaddy's back yard. We can all learn a thing or two from The Battle of Blair Mountain. Don't be complicit in the erasure of our history. Get organized, stay vigilant, and know that this shit doesn't get better without profound sacrifice. Power to the people.
