So here it is, I was placed on a wait by the person working the drive-through. He politely told me it would be 4 to 5 minutes before he could take my order. I thanked him and waited. I worked in the food industry for a long time, ran restaurants, and even ran a drive-through in my youth. This was a first for me but I assumed they were short for the day and waited patiently.
In the meantime, everyone around me lost their minds. The truck in front of me received their food and laid down rubber when exiting, the lady behind me was visibly shaking with anger and started screaming at the speaker when it was her turn.
PSA: The poor bastard taking your order was one of the three people who decided to show up for work today. Be kind.
When I got to the window I saw it immediately. He was taking the order, pouring drinks, and working as the fry cook. This would typically be three separate people in an ideal situation.
The food industry is suffering due to low wages, poor management, and dealing with the general public which I'm sorry to say, is filled with crazy people. None of these things were that kid's fault.
It is situations like this that make me wonder why anybody shows up.
The food was good by the way.
