The Mexican business owner association (COPARMEX) says it is “not the moment” to reduce the work week from 6 days to 5 days. Article (in Spanish) linked below. Some highlights from the article:
Ricardo Barbosa, president of the COPARMEX, declared that while he agrees that workers deserve a dignified life, a five-days work week is not convenient for Mexico. He says that due to the economic context of Mexico in the world, this proposed change will affect the country economy. He said that while Mexico is one of the countries with the longest working hours in the word, is also one of the least productive, in part due to the large number of people who work in the informal sector. “Before the government approves this change, we need a cold, serious, objective and reasonable discussion”. Right now is not the right moment, we need to do a detailed and responsible study before moving forward”. Before moving to a 5 days week, the government must first fight against the informal work sector and create a program to increase productivity. Once this is achieved, then the work week can gradually be decreased to five days.
Business owners would have workers working seven days a week if they had their way. If you live in a country with five days work week, fight for a four-days week. It's never enough for them anyway.
