The place I work at will only use sick days if the employee calls 24 hrs in advanced of when they are scheduled. If you call after that, it is considered to be a “no call, no show”. After 2 occurrences, you get a “verbal warning”. You are actually getting written up. One of my occurrences happened the day after a windstorm had knocked down a tree into my road, preventing me from leaving my house. The other occurrence I had food poisoning. No possible way for me to have known 24 hrs on advanced.
Are companies actually allowed to do this, or is there regulation they are pretending doesn't exist?
