My privacy was invaded today

This morning, I called our company’s IT support line for assistance with something job-related. A few hours later, the tech who I spoke to sent requests to follow/friend me on multiple personal social media accounts! They used the information I provided when I needed assistance to find my personal information and accounts. They would not have had that info if I didn’t call. That person is from a different country where social media requests are much more relaxed and they are within the same company I work for, but it was still a violation of my privacy and super unprofessional.

I brought it up to one of my direct supervisors, who passed it along to other leadership who can address it. They have all been handling this situation excellently and I am thrilled about that especially as a relatively new employee.

HR wants to talk to me about it in an hour and I’m nervous I don’t want to get anyone fired for trying to be too friendly or socitial differences surrounding social media but they need to know that’s not something you should do. Any thoughts on what to say when HR meets with me? Nervous bc I’ve never been in a situation like this.
