My job expects me to arrive 30 minutes early (unpaid) and stay to clean for 30+ minutes (unpaid) after I do the work I am paid for. Is this legal?

Apologies if this isn’t the right sub, it seems like people here are very knowledgeable about this kind of thing. I’m in Chicago, and work for a fitness studio franchise that has its coaches that lead class arrive 30 minutes before their first class, and stay to clean the studio after. I think people have said if you spend more than 30 minutes cleaning then you will start to get paid for it. The arriving early and cleaning are considered part of our “coaching duties” so while we get paid for the classes themselves, we are not paid for any time between classes (anywhere from 5-15 minutes) or the bookend time before and after. This feels wrong to me, but everyone seems to accept it as is. I’ve done a lot of googling to see if this is allowed but can’t really find anything pertaining to this exact situation. I…
