I’ve been working for a large company as a designer for about 15 years.
I would argue that I have far more skills than most of the people on my team (we have a department wide skills matrix that clearly shows this) and people come to me for allsorts of problem-solving. I know a lot more programs than they do. I have more capabilities in different areas. I have even lead our company’s branding for the past 4 years. I have taken every single opportunity for learning/up-skilling they have given me over the years. I can do CGI, photography, cinematography, branding, animation, graphic design, print, digital, coding, editing, music production, pretty much anything you can throw me creatively and to a high standard and have received several design awards that a fair amount of senior people have not.
I brought this up with my manager in a 1 to 1 who, by the way is someone that I recruited years ago and was promoted over me and she said it was because I am consistently not in work at 9 am. Now I work on a flexible hours contract and I work through my lunches almost every day and often stay late. Is it even illegal to use my flexible contract against me? it’s gotten to the point where I’m considering finding employment elsewhere simply get ahead and staying in this position looks terrible on my CV.
Sadly, where I live it’s one of the largest creative employers and gives me opportunities to work with large industry names and on big budget projects. If I move to a smaller agency, I would have much less interesting or creatively fulfilling work.
Any tips on what I should do?
