I work at a big box store, and occasionally drive to other locations to help out. Apparently I'm so competent that I run my department well enough that I can be spared to help other stores catch up, without falling behind myself, but am still not eligible for a raise…I digress.
Anyway. Since I drive to other stores I was given a form to fill out basically promising that I take responsibility for my driving and won't sue the company or whatever. They also required my driver's license number (I thought that was weird but didn't question it at the time).
But then they said I needed a background check too. This was the first page for me to fill out. I stopped and asked the assistant mgr wtf. He thought it was weird too, but shrugged it off and said he'd tell the store manager I wasn't comfortable with this.
Am I overreacting? Is it reasonable for them to need my permission to dig into my credit report simply to allow me to drive from my own house to a different location instead of the one I usually work at?
