I got contacted by a recruiter for some garbage agency. For a IT office job. They are all the same at this point. Lied to me about wage saying it’d be 24 an hour and I got bumped down to 23 (as soon as I could even see the HR website they use). By the way, if I didn’t answer immediately all forms of contact is this contractor company blowing up my phone at 6:30 AM my time.
To start though, I had 1 interview on teams cam on. They decided to extend an offer great. They make it sound like a help desk job though in interview… So I waited a week for them to contact me back proposing my start date as 6/14.
That day comes. They have me read a little manual about the job and responsibility from home.
Like cool, doesn’t pertain to me, but am aware now. So waiting for paper work, onboarding stuff to come through now.
I send text, call, email like wtf is going on? They tell me to be patient and chill. 3 days pass. It is now the weekend. I have no idea if I still have a job or not. I decline an offer to work IT at the local college, which I wish I took instead. Monday comes, and finallllly they contact me.
Cool so I fill out onboarding. They tell me my first in office day is 6/26. Neat
Get in here. Get a generic laptop that I can’t sign into just has admin login okay. I have access to my work stuff and my contractor stuff.
No training. No inventory or stock on site for IT personnel, I get work tickets I can’t do anything for, no guidance or direction. Find out I am the ONLY IT dude on site for this particular office.
I have looked up policies and procedures, attempting to learn how this place images laptops. I find it searching documentation. Ask if I have access to do this “oh no another team does that not you”. No explanation on anything. Discouraging me from even asking more shit.
They add me to all these random teams on Microsoft teams. I have no context, later find out these are other IT people onsite at other locations. Ask questions and get no answers.
So far I haven’t done shit, I can’t help anyone, there are no contacts, no communications, little to nothing. I text some dude at the contract agency cause I don’t even have access to my own time sheet yet.
Like wtf. I don’t know what to make of this. I have never experienced anything so disorganized, confusing, or lack of communication like this ever in my 34 years of life.
At the very least for whatever reason they gave me 24 work hours before I actually got into office and paid me. I accept since they wasted so much of my time trying to figure out onboarding shit.
Has anyone experienced this?
Edit, I did talk to the office manager, who contact the IT infrastructure manager. Who said some shit in Teams. And the IT folk at other sites are like “you can ask us!”
Still no response to my questions like “ticket number 000001 how do I help this guy his computer randomly shuts off, I have no stock. I could swap computers and attempt to repair bad one, if we had stock”.
