GM Severance taxed at 37%

Many people took the voluntary severance package that GM offered this year, many as a way to retire early and most others to get away from the culture driven company. The unfortunate issue with it all is that everyone was told that the salary lump sum would be taxed based on our W2s. One problem, it wasn’t. Payroll decided to assume that everyone receiving it was a multimillionaire by calculating their yearly wage allocation with the lump sum x 24 for the 24 pay periods in a year. This then caused all of the the severance takers to be in the highest tax bracket of 37%. After all taxes out most people only are receiving 50% now while the government is getting a 0% interest loan from us. GM promised that you could take your salary and live off of it up to a year for those that had 12+…

This then caused all of the the severance takers to be in the highest tax bracket of 37%. After all taxes out most people only are receiving 50% now while the government is getting a 0% interest loan from us.

GM promised that you could take your salary and live off of it up to a year for those that had 12+ years in, yet the reality is maybe 4 months, until we get it back in a refund.

It’s a shame that this has happened and is just another example of the lies that GM has pushed over the last 2 years.

I would post this in the General Motors subreddit but the cowards over there turned off posts due to all of the negative conversation that has taken place.
