My wife and I work for a large resort in the tourism industry. They give out a $250 bonus for referring someone who gets hired and works for 3 months. My wife referred a friend and when she went to collect the bonus the person told her that her name wasn't in the referral box on her friend's application and that bc so many people were abusing the program that there was no grey area. If there's no name there's no bonus.
My wife was upset but mostly bc the dude inferred that she's a scammer.
A few weeks later I went in to see the same dude about a buddy I referred. He pulled up the guy's file and said yep, he been hired then went to another screen and said sorry but your name isn't on the referral. Then went into the same scammer rant.
I've known my buddy forever so I texted him and asked, he said absolutely he put my name in as the referral. He's a digital packrat so he found his application and texted me a screenshot of my name in the referral. He then was able to get on the hr portal and look at his application and my name was in there also.
I called my manager and explained the situation she said she'd talk to the HR Bro about it.
A couple of days later she emailed me back and said there was a misunderstanding and that yes I was in the referral on the application and id get my bonus.
Then she went on to explain that the hr dude saw my name but bc my friend was hired the summer that he thought I wasn't entitled to the referral which was nothing like the conversation I had with him.
I figured that bc most of the employees are seasonal transient college students that he was telling them this story and somehow pocketing the money.
It pisses me off cuz he's not stealing from my employer but kids that are struggling to get by in an expensive resort community.
Should I keep my mouth shut and take my $. Or push the subject?
TL;Dr: I think the hr dude is preying on financially vulnerable young people. Should I keep my mouth shut and take my money or speak up?
