Last year, I bought tickets and an Airbnb for a weekend trip to see one of my boyfriend’s all time favorite bands. It’s coming up soon so I messaged my manager explaining the situation and asked for that weekend off. I’m a new hire, so I figured they would give it to me because this was something I’d planned long before I’d worked at this new job. Manager said it was a blacked out weekend, but she would “see what she could do” and never got back to me. Now, a month later, I see that I’m scheduled for that weekend. I don’t know if I should send her another text telling her I will NOT be able to come in, or just offer my shift up and hope for the best before resorting to calling out. Management previously explained when I was hired that I was solely responsible for finding coverage for days I need off. I realize I should have probably been more direct in my original text to her and told her then I wouldn’t be coming in, but didn’t want to make things rocky being a new hire and all. To be completely honest, this job hasn’t even been scheduling me more than two days a week so it’s not entirely important to me anyways, I just want to do what’s right here.
