I started my current role in November and it has been pure hell. It is by far the most toxic environment I’ve ever been in. The work is very intense and it’s not uncommon for me to have to work 12 hour days in the regular.
In our department we have 2 bullies. What makes it so funny to me is that this is a highly specialized professional field. And I have zero idea how these 2 haven’t got fired. Now I can deal with the 60 hours per week (even though it blows), but I cannot deal with being criticized at every turn by these 2 blockheads.
For example, I was screen sharing during a meeting and going over a list of items that a vendor sent over to discuss. And one of these idiot bullies started berating me in front of the group and essentially laughing and yelling (she does this in combination. It’s kind of fascination really) saying I made things up and didn’t even understand our process. She tries to make me look bad at every turn and is a complete idiot because I was clearly sharing my screen to discuss an agenda item which was to review what the vendor had shared.
Or another gem was berating me to senior leaders on an email because I didn’t schedule a meeting “as directed” and she heard that I still “has some confusion”. Um, no you asshat the meeting happened “as directed” and your mole obviously didn’t appropriately inform you.
I have been dealing with this type of crap on at least once a day if not more often. It’s awful and feels really shitty.
In any case, I complained to my boss about the toxic environment from these bullies (who are also pretty senior) and for the second time she said to me this past Friday that I need to “put my big girl pants on”. Well, that was the final straw. I have time on calendar tomorrow morning for a quick 15 minute check in and I’m sure she knows it’s coming.
I don’t know how exactly places of employment think they can be so abusive. I’ve been working 60+ hours per week for at least the last 6 months straight after additional work got put on my plate and then I’m going to get treated like a piece of crap from people 2 levels above me for no reason other than it gets their jollies off?
I hope these two turds sleep good at night as well as my boss because I am putting my big girl pants on for when I give my notice tomorrow.
