I declined a one-way interview…

I declined a one-way interview for a management role. I wrote back to the recruiter stating that I prefer to speak with the hiring manager about the role so I can ask questions. The recruiter said that if I do well, then I get to move on to an interview with the head of HR… I have been a hiring manager. My hiring philosophy, if you really want a candidate, you freaking roll out the red carpet and hire the person. They walked… I feel accomplished for not bowing down to some impersonal system. Has anyone else gone through this, what are your thoughts?
