I’ve only been here 3 months and I’m so fizzled out I barely have the energy to apply for new jobs.

I recently graduated with my masters degree- I was so excited that this job basically fell into my lap because I knew the hiring manager. I’d have a job doing something I enjoyed at a well-known university. Regardless, I was gonna have a job when I graduated! That’s the goal!! Little did I know this hiring manager is notorious across the university for being a bitch to work with. They’re a workaholic and expect everyone on the team to follow suit. Our team is working 70+ hour work weeks through a monsterous schedule for a program we’re in charge of. We have to stay on campus during the summer, even though I said in my interview that I would commute since I have a life and family and can’t just drop everything for the summer (obviously I said it a little more professionally than that). Helping this program is literally…

Helping this program is literally a bullet point in my job description.
The breaking point was when I asked to use my PTO to go home early during the week so I can visit and care for a family member who has health problems (already shady to use my PTO to “go home”, imo). After getting chewed out multiple times we finally came to an agreement and all was well. After a week of this new schedule my PTO is suddenly unapproved and I have to go back to 70 hour work weeks because they “need me”. But if I can’t stay on campus like they want, they’ll terminate me. Doesn’t make much sense to me if you ask me. We’re already down a staff member after they fled the coop and lucked out finding a new job.

I’ve been putting my resume out there and looking for jobs, but I’m just so stressed about how to explain why I was only at this job 3 months. This is mostly a rant, but I guess also an ask for advice as well. How did people navigate the job hunt with such a short stint on your resume? Do I just not put the job on there at all?

TL,DR; Nasty workaholic supervisor. Horrible schedule. Nothing like I expected. PTO was approved then unapproved while trying to care for ailing family member. Trying to find a new job but feeling insecure about having only 3 months in current role.
