Can anybody think of a way to request a copy on an employment contract without setting off EVERY red flag?

Just need to see if I have a non compete because it's time to fly solo and poach a few contracts. “Hey I wanna see when it'll be officially 5 years employment, does my contract have a date on it?” is the best I can come up with…
