My job (local gov) hired the Austin-Peters group to do a Job Evaluation study. What does this all mean?

My employer (city government) hired this consulting firm for a jobs evaluation study. The seminar said it was to look at our job descriptions, then collect data from us employees about what we do and then compare. Has anyone had any experience in this? What can I, and my fellow employees, expect?
