So i just started a new job and my 2 coworkers are constantly making uncomfortable remarks around me (it’s a clinic but we work in a small office in the clinic). Both are boomers,I’m 30. First one was about how they use not hire people with tattoos or piercings and now they do (I have piercing on my face & a few tattoos),second was a comment about how gay people are depressed cause their gay (I’m bi and a part of the community,I have a gay sibling and I have friends in the community) I kept my mouth shut about that. The straw that broke the camel back for me was both of them saying trump should be re-elected or hoping he runs again. (Im a woc with piercings, looks pretty liberal so unsure why any of this they feel comfort in speaking about)
I spoke to the practice manager about it and said I didn’t wanna cause a fuss but that I also felt it wasn’t appropriate to discuss those things in a office setting, she agreed and said she will speak with them. Now I have this extreme anxiety about work cause if and when she talked to them it’s going to be known it was obviously me and I just don’t want this awkward tense feeling in the small office I’m in with them but also was tired of feeling uncomfortable and keeping quiet for their comfort. Has anyone else ever gone through something similar and what was the outcome? Or any advice. I’ve never worked at a place where such things were said out loud or I’m around other pretty liberal people normally .
