Hi everyone, long story short I used to work as FedEx ground driver for about 3 years. I was doing full time for a year then got switched to part time (2 to 3 days a week) because of slow work.
About a month ago I got into a car accident (off work) and got hospitalized and couldn’t work for 6 weeks. During these 6 weeks my supervisor was almost begging me to come work on Sunday but I explained several times that I’m still recovering and cannot do the heavy lifting and other job responsibilities.
After the 6 weeks and after I got the green light from my chiropractor I called him to let him know that I’m ready to be back to work on Sunday and Monday. He appreciated that and said I’ll see you on Sunday.
Now couple days later I texted him that I’m not coming on Sunday, he replied “no problem”. Later on Sunday I texted him asking if I can come on Monday, no reply. Called him 3 times he never answered and never called/texted back. I texted him please get back to me and let me know. No replies. I’m 100% positive he’s never calling or texting back even if I try to contact him again.
My question is would I be considered fired? Would I be eligible for unemployment benefits?
