I'm unemployed and have been unemployed for over a year now.
My father is a freelance lawyer, and my mum has been a housewife for 35 years. My older brother (Gen Y) is a QA consultant.
Pretty much for the past four years, my parents (and my brother) have been trying to persuade me that the only way to get a job is to continually do 'overtime' – in their heads, it's to stay after you clock out and 'hone your skills' and 'get answers to whatever questions you may have so you could hone your skills.' They're convinced this is the way because my brother did precisely this and got a promotion fairly quickly, from a clerk to that QA consultant position. They think that slave labor is the only way upper management is going to notice you.
And now they're attempting to rile me up.
Nope. I don't care what you say. My foot is out the door as soon as my 8.5 hours are up. If you want to work for 12 hours and get paid only for 8, then it's your choice. Leave me out of it.
