Why is it we’re expected to be ok will the pennies that companies pay us yet the companies never except profits being the same year after year?

They always want more yet at least me personally would be happy will just being financially secure and have a house with a workshop. Why is it never enough? What hole are they so desperately filling that has no end? I just don't get it if I had the kind of funds they do I'd retire and just work on my own projects at home forever. Their greed annoys me so much
