How to help someone else see?

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone had advice on how to show people that their loyalty to bad boss is harming them. For context my bf is currently working at an unpaid internship because his field is stupidly competitive. The company is very small only owner 2 paid workers and him. He’s been given an amazing opportunity to be in an exhibition in a couple of months that could be an amazing opportunity for him to get recognised in his field. It is the sort of opportunity that people in the field would kill for. One of the things holding him back is that it will be a lot of work to sort out and he is currently working 2 days in a store to earn money and 5 days unpaid. I have suggested he drop the internship but he feels like he can’t because he said he would…

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had advice on how to show people that their loyalty to bad boss is harming them.

I have suggested he drop the internship but he feels like he can’t because he said he would do it for a set period of time and his parents have also suggested that he should “honour his commitments”.

It’s not like the owner is a nice boss. She has been rude to him and other staff and when he told her about the opportunity she was dismissive about him doing it. As well as this she said today that he needs to start dressing more masculine next week as they are having more conservative clients in (he is a gay man and likes colourful outfits) note there is no standard dress code.

I’m trying my best not to be too preachy or pushy but I can’t seem to make him see how he owes this person absolutely nothing.
