I have been an avid reader/practitioner of this sub for a long time and while agree with the spirit of most of the posts, there are also a lot of extremely naive posts, which within time, will answer themselves through experience of being in the workplace for a long time (sadly).
In summary, yes the workplace is unfair – always has been and there isn't a great deal you can do about it. Sometimes you eat the bar, other times the bar eats you blah blah blah…
HOWEVER, the absolute best piece of job advice I have ever been given, regardless of your age, industry or geographic location is this:
Only ever stay in a job if you are either LEARNING or EARNING. If you aren't doing either – LEAVE. If you are doing both – STAY. If you are only doing one, then start thinking about moving on.
That is the best way to measure if a job is really worth it and will help you assess your situation now and for the future.
If you are in a toxic or unsafe environment, then obviously please use your own discretion, but this advice is more if you are in a 'regular' job and want to know if it's really worth it.
It's the one piece of advice I keep coming back to time and time again and always something to keep in mind for any job, forever!
Best of luck everyone!
